What Size Tent Do I Need? A Guide by Guest Count

Choosing a tent is mostly simple math: how many people, how they will use the space, and what else needs to fit underneath. Here is how we help customers work it out.

Start with your guest count and layout

People take up less room standing than seated at a table. These are the capacities for the tents we rent:

Tent size Square feet Best for
10×10 pop-up 100 Food, gifts, check-in or a small seating area
10×20 pop-up 200 Small seating area, buffet line or vendor booth
20×30 canopy 600 Up to 60 seated guests, or about 90 standing
20×50 canopy 1,000 About 80 to 120 guests

Then add everything else

Those numbers cover guests, so give extra room for anything else going under the tent:

  • A buffet or dessert table. Plan a 10×10 area, or add a separate pop-up.
  • A dance floor. Our 18×18 dance floor takes up 324 square feet on its own, so it may change the tent you need.
  • A DJ, gifts or a cake table. Allow room for each one.

Measure your space first

Before you choose, measure your yard and check for anything overhead, such as trees or power lines. Note the slope too, along with any gates we will need to get through. If you are not sure it will fit, send us a photo and the measurements.

Plan for the Arizona climate

In the Valley, the tent is usually about shade first. The sun moves during your event, so think about where it will be at the time your guests are seated. On a hot afternoon, pair your tent with a portable evaporative cooler. On a cool night, add a patio heater near the edge of the seating area.
