How to Keep Guests Cool at an Outdoor Party in Arizona

Hosting outside in Arizona takes a little planning. With summer highs in the Valley regularly above 100 degrees, comfort is part of the guest experience. Here is what actually helps.

1. Choose your time wisely

The easiest way to beat the heat is to avoid its peak. Evening events are much more comfortable in summer, and a party that starts near sunset also gives you the best light and a gorgeous desert sky.

2. Create real shade

Direct sun is the biggest problem, so put shade first. A canopy tent covers your whole seating area, while patio umbrellas work well for smaller groups. Remember that the sun moves, so check where the shade will fall during your event.

3. Keep the air moving

Moving air makes a big difference. A portable evaporative cooler can cool an area of up to 950 square feet, and for larger spaces we rent models that move up to 7,650 CFM of air. Evaporative coolers need water and power, so plan where they will sit and add an extension cord reel if needed.

4. Know how monsoon season changes things

Evaporative coolers work best in dry heat. During monsoon season, higher humidity makes them less effective, so lean more on shade and fans, and have a plan for sudden wind or storms.

5. Make cold drinks easy to find

Keep water and cold drinks where guests can reach them without crossing the whole yard. A 90-quart rolling cooler holds up to 137 cans, and a snow cone machine turns staying cool into part of the fun.

6. Choose comfortable seating

Dark surfaces get hot in the sun. If your tables and chairs will sit outside before guests arrive, keep them in the shade or set them up closer to the start time. Our 4-day rental period gives you the flexibility to do that.
